Heat Resistance

Take the High Heat: Heat Resistance

Teflon® can operate continuously at temperatures up to 260°C (500°F) and can be used for intermittent service up to 316°C (600°F) with adequate ventilation. Teflon®’s melting point is 327°C (621°F).

Applications:

  • The food industry requires equipment to be coated with Teflon® to allow nonstick baking, and having material that can handle high baking temperatures is a plus. Teflon® heat resistant coatings are used widely in bread, muffin and pastry cooking.
  • Aluminum seal plates and heat platens for the packing industry require Teflon® heat resistant coatings to achieve a non-stick wear surface with operating temperatures up to 500°F.
  • Teflon® coatings are perfect for aircraft engine components which require low friction performance in high temperatures.
  • In waste incinerators, Teflon® coatings are used in gas-gas heat exchangers.
