Industrial Tapes
PRECISIONTAPE™: non-stick, heat-resistant performance in an easy-to-use tape
The heat tolerance and release characteristics of polytetrafluoroethylene
(also known as PTFE or Teflon®) are combined with the strength
and dimensional stability of fiberglass in PRECISIONTAPE™, manufactured
in a self-adhesive form to maximize ease of application.
Choose either of two adhesive formulations to best suit your application:
- Acrylic - highly persistent adhesion at room temperature; able to withstand intermittent temperatures between -100° and 275°F (-73° and 135°C).
- Silicone - adheres readily to heated surfaces, repositionable without residue and is able to tolerate constant ambient temperatures from -100° to 500°F (-73° and 260°C).
PRECISIONTAPE™ is non-toxic, odorless, tasteless, and is FDA compliant (21 CFR 177.1150) for use in food processing, packaging and handling. Our tapes are made from woven fiberglass cloth that has been coated with PTFE. This combination of materials delivers excellent dimensional stability, tensile strength, durability, and extremely low elongation (<1%).

Typical PRECISIONTAPE Applications
PRECISIONTAPE™ Products:
PRECISIONTAPE™ Standard
The workhorse of Precision Coating's product line, PRECISIONTAPE™ Standard is made of a tightly woven fiberglass cloth substrate generously coated with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). Standard is used in the widest variety of applications requiring smooth non-stick performance and excellent resistance to temperature extremes (the fiberglass/PTFE components of PRECISIONTAPE™ are dimensionally stabile from -100° to +500°F [-73° to +260°C]). This tape is available in a choice of two adhesive formulations:
- Acrylic backing offers the highest available bond strength for applications which require very persistent adhesion. It adheres reliably in a temperature range of -100° to +275°F (-73° to 135°C).
- Silicone backing offers a persistent yet repositionable bond that leaves minimal adhesive residue when removed. Adhering reliably in a temperature range from -100° to +500°F (-73° to 260°C), silicone tapes are a wise choice for bag sealing equipment which requires frequent changes in heating elements.
PRECISIONTAPE™ Premium
Created for industry's most demanding applications, the extremely smooth non-stick surface of PRECISIONTAPE( Premium provides the best release, highest dielectric strength, greatest chemical resistance and longest working life of any Precision Coating PTFE tape. Available in both acrylic and silicone backing, Premium features a tighter woven fiberglass substrate and higher PTFE content for greater efficiency with sticky or gummy materials. The surface is smoother for less friction and a pattern-free, visually attractive seal.
PRECISIONUMHW™ tape
A non-PTFE alternative offers exceptional resistance to abrasion and punctures, while delivering non-stick and low friction performance on a par with PTFE tapes. Made from ultra-high molecular weight polyolefin with an acrylic adhesive, PRECISIONUMHW™ conforms to irregular surfaces more readily than standard fiberglass/PTFE tapes. This makes it excellent for use on wear points in a conveyor belt rail, or on other applications that require both low friction and high abrasion resistance. UMHW film complies with FDA regulation 21 CFR 177.1550 (article intended for contact with food) and is suitable for use in temperatures to 125°F (52°C).
PRECISIONWEAR™ tape
PRECISIONWEAR™ delivers resistance to abrasion and wear beyond the scope of PTFE, yet functions within a temperature range comparable to other PRECISIONTAPE™ products. A wise choice for roll covers and poly bag equipment that must perform for long periods without tape replacement. Operationally and dimensionally stabile using a silicone adhesive system from -100° to +500°F (-73° to 260°C), with excellent release characteristics for easy repositioning with minimal adhesive residue.
PRECISIONTAPE™ Zone Tape
This tape was created especially to protect the heating element of heat sealing machinery from the adhesive buildup standard tapes can cause. By creating an adhesive-free zone longitudinally through the center of the tape yet maintaining adhesive on both outer edges, a tape may be placed across a heating element without contact between the element and tape adhesive. This feature is especially valuable for bag sealers which require frequent change-overs of the heating element. Operationally and dimensionally stable from -100° to 550°F (-73° to 280°C), with excellent release characteristics for easy repositioning and removal. Zone tape can be manufactured using any of our PRECISIONFAB™ fabrics to best match the needs of a process for non-stick performance and high-temperature operation.
PRECISIONSKIVED™ PTFE Film Tape
Created of pure PTFE, with the added convenience of a silicone adhesive backing for easy positioning and adhesion. While this material lacks the dimensional stability and abrasion resistance of other PRECISIONTAPE™ products, it offers unique advantages:
- Exceptional flexibility and conformity to irregular surfaces.
- Can be elongated up to 300% of its original size,
- Excellent release characteristics consistent with standard PTFE
- Extremely low friction surfaces
- Operational stability from -100° to +500°F (-73° to +260°C)
- Highly chemical resistant
A PRECISIONSKIVED™ film is ideal for use as a tank liner (due to it's chemical resistance) and for the lining of molds (due to its superior release characteristics at high temperatures.)
Heat Sealing Application Spotlight
Application challenge: the fusion of two or more layers of plastic packaging films by the application of heat, generally to close a package. Easy release of plastics from the heat-seal band, bar or platen is critically important to prevent damage to the seal, contamination of the seal bar, and constriction of product movement through the sealing process.
Solution: PRECISIONTAPE™ fabric placed over the heat-seal band. When used in conjunction with precise time and temperature control, PRECISIONTAPE( will achieve satisfactory release of the plastic material after heat-sealing. Proper time and temperature are both critical; even the finest PTFE products may stick if the temperature is too low or the heat-seal jaw is opened before or after the optimum cycle time.
